What's on your "do before I die" list?

Well first of all, let me say that I think that this is a semi-morbid way of looking at things. Now I know that I'm just arguing over semantics, but I would feel much more comfortable if this question were posed as "What's on your 'while I'm living' list?" Next I'd like to offer up this disclaimer: All items in this list are ideas and desires formulated by Scott Blair in 2007 and are subject to change over the course of his life, this list in no way limits Scott Blair, and the absence of any other idea or desire does not exclude its later addition to this list. Okay, so now that that is out of the way, let's get down to business. While I'm alive I want to have something published, record some music and be proud of it, play music for people again, dance with no reservations, fall in a love so deep that i'll never get out of it, ride a tortoise, influence someones life in a good way, watch Hawk The Destroyer and Rock N' Roll Nightmare and be amazed, make someone a kick-anus mix tape, party around a bon-fire, sit on a rooftop with someone and watch the stars, camp out in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey and look for the Jersey Devil, take a chance and just kiss the girl, go sailing, sleep on a bench, drive across country again and travel as much as I can, beat Ninja Gaiden (I and II), get past the van part in the first TMNT video game, figure out what is going on in Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, really mean something to someone, and just plain be happy....

the perks of being a wallflower

Dear Friend,

I read The Perks of Being a Wallflower today. I’m not so sure that it was an amazing book or anything completely original – although nowadays what is? – but a lot of things in the story really hit hard. I feel like maybe I should restate that sentence. This book was a great, white cloud. What I mean by this is that in its general form it resembles every other cloud, but when you look really closely, right along the edges, the little details make it stand out from the rest. I can’t say that the book was a completely new story or anything like that; when I got to the end I felt like I had heard/seen/read this story before, but in this case the filler was fantastic. This was one of those goldfoil clouds that the sun outlines with its bright rays. I’m struggling to keep myself from starting the book over again. Gosh it was really good. So yes, I highly recommend this book to you if you haven’t read it. And I sincerely thank Kelie for getting it for me, it’s probably one of the best Christmas presents I’ve ever been given. Right up there next to the picture that my brother gave me of us when we were little with the note “to Scott, the best brother anyone could ask for! Thanks! – John C.” tucked in under the glass of the frame with it. Anyway, I’ve just been thinking about this book non-stop since I started it and I needed to say something about it somewhere to someone and so this seemed like the logical thing to do. I think I’m going to go now though cause it’s late and I want to fall asleep thinking about falling in love and having things work out the way they should. Things do work out the way they should. And the filler does matter, in fact the filler may be the most important part, cause we’re all in the same basic story, it’s only right around the edges that you can tell us apart. I feel like that is an amazing and strong feeling, that we are all so close to each other. It may come across as a sad thing, thinking that we’re all so alike, but just look at the clouds. And I bet you won’t even be able to pick out a favorite, because they’re all so beautiful in different ways.

oh, and p.s. – I also think it’s amazing how everything in this life is related. I am so struck by the fact that I can use the same metaphor of clouds to talk about books or people or days or lives or situations or relationships or candy. Haha, I feel like Dustin Hoffman in I <3 Huckabees, “Say this blanket represents all the matter and energy in the universe, okay? This is me, this is you, and over here, this is the Eiffel Tower, right, it's Paris!” It’s all the blanket.

Okay, so these past couple of weeks have been pretty awesome and it's got me kinda worried. I mean, a lot of times you get some good stuff and then you get some bad....and this past Thursday was a lot of freakin good....so now I'm trying to figure out whether I'm in for some bad or not. I'm hoping that this was all just backpay or something....like I was owed some good times and so it just all got put into one freakin sweet ass package. But what if I wake up tomorrow and my anal glands start leaking uncontrollably and then my nipples fall off? Now I know you are all thinking, "Sweet merciful lord man, what could possibly have been awesome enough to warrant uncontrollable anal discharge and nipple jettisoning!?!?" Well, last Thursday I got a call from Vikki asking if I had any desire to go see a show out at the Jewish Mother. Neither of us knew who was playing, so I looked that jank up, and freakin Kaki King is the headliner. So I get pretty excited; however, I had previously made plans to see a movie. After careful thought I decided to bail on the movie and went to meet Vikki and Melissa at the JM. So yeah, the show was amazing, we ended up sitting with Bora Yoon (the openning act) while Kaki played, then we talked with Bora, got pictures with Bora, bought stuff from Bora...THEN we talked to Kaki, got pictures with Kaki...THEN we freaking hung out with Bora and Kaki in a booth at the JM until closing time at 1 in the morning...THEN Kaki Freakin-King says to us "Why don't you just follow us back to our hotel and we'll figure something out." So freakin, while we follow them to their hotel, Melissa calls David, the guy that owns The Boot, and he agrees to stay open for us. THEN (I can't believe all this happened) Kaki King, Bora Yoon, and Dan (their roady/sound guy/horn player) all pile into Vikki's car and we go to hang out at The Boot until 3 in the morning. It was insane. I almost wet myself at least 5 times that night. So yes, if Karma does catch up to me and I lose all of my motor functions and cannot hang out with you anymore because I am constantly crapping myself....at least now you will know that it was worth it.

oh, and p.s. - i think i'm slightly obsessed with Kaki King now....just letting you know, hint hint...the holidays are just around the corner....and she only lives in NY. hahaaaaaa...oh silly me, i don't condone kidnapping people......

...unless it's necessary......
